MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Giving disadvantaged children and young people a break

Blue Cross Denmark organises Special Moments as a chance for children and young people facing a crisis to take a break from a tough daily life. The aim is that more of these young people can find friendship, fellowship and closeness with other children and young people and with adult volunteers. Special Moments are provided locally for vulnerable children, maintaining relationships, building bridges and creating continuity.

“We are delighted that the Vissing Foundation has chosen to support Special Moments, which make a big difference for many children and young people going through difficult periods,” says Lise Søndergård, project manager from Blue Cross Denmark.

Through activities and outings, these children and young people are seen and appreciated, so that they build up confidence in others, with enthusiasm for life, and are able to dream of a better future.

Special Moments are planned and organised by local volunteer coordinators and a team of volunteer leaders, who ensure that the children have good experiences together with committed adults. Friendships grow up between participants, and they form good relationships with the adults.

The activities depend on the individual team, and may include anything from going fishing or baking dampers over a bonfire, to visiting an adventure park or an attraction in the area. A minimum of three one-day activities are held at weekends in every six months.
