The Vissing Foundation supports Blue Cross holiday camps, which are intended to give disadvantaged children unforgettable holidays, and thus a breathing space from a tough daily life.
“Vulnerable children and young people should have the same opportunities as the rest of their school class. At the camps, the focus is on giving the children taking part a space to escape from daily life. They spend time with adults and other participants who are good company to be with,” says Sandra Trampedach Junget, project manager for Blue Cross Denmark Holiday Camps.
Participants at the camps find that others are in similar situations, such as being in family care or having difficulties at home. They understand that others know what their situation feels like too. It is not off limits to talk about their difficulties, and it is easier to seek the help they need, e.g. from TUBA, the Blue Cross Children’s house, or the Children’s Helpline.
“The holiday camps give the children taking part hope, self-esteem and courage to face the future. The camps also let participants know where they can go for help when they go back to face the challenges of their daily lives again,” says Sandra Trampedach Junget.
The holiday camps are planned and organised by volunteers, who are trained for the task by Blue Cross Denmark through courses, interviews and regular verbal sparring.
