MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Training volunteers

Home-Start Aarhus is a voluntary organisation that has received a grant from the Vissing Foundation to recruit and train volunteer family friends, and match them with families with small children, whom they help and support through a crisis.
The objective is to increase capacity at Home-Start Aarhus and be able to help more families in crisis who come seeking help and support.

“The plan is to run three recruitment procedures and training courses during the project period for which the Vissing Foundation is supporting us. Each time, we will take in 7-10 new volunteer family friends, to reach a total of 21-30 new family friends in one year,” says Lars Stigel, chairman of Home-Start Aarhus.

After their training, these new family friends can help stressed and vulnerable families with small children in the City of Aarhus. It is usually the families who apply to their local branch when they need help. The parents can get support if they are in a difficult situation in life, where it is hard for them to meet all the requirements of parenting. The scheme primarily targets families who can be helped with support at an early stage to rebuild resources or bring new resources into play.
