“Back to Life” is a non-profit psychosocial support programme offered to Danish families with a child who has cancer, during and after the child’s long-term cancer treatment.
The project is facilitated by a psychotherapist and supported by unpaid volunteers from the Association of Cancer Affected Children who have a child with cancer themselves, or have previously had one.
“The child’s cancer affects the whole family. That is why it is necessary to provide both individual and collective support for the family as a whole, with networks and tools to manage how they carry on with their lives. The Vissing Foundation’s support is important in helping us to support the families better,” says Lene Walther, one of the volunteers from the Association of Cancer Affected Children.
The programmes are run in the cities of Aalborg, Aarhus and Copenhagen. Families of children with cancer take part free, with special focus on broad inclusion and countering any social inequality.
