MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Support for a workshop

Fonden ConCura is a non-profit foundation which carries out social-educational preventive work, diagnoses and treats children and young people aged 8 to 18. The treatments target young people with e.g. ADHD, autism, attachment disorders, anxiety, neglect, late development or low IQ.

Fonden ConCura has a residential centre in Holbæk. ‘Project Workshop for creative ideas in craftsmanship’ is about being able to offer the young residents at the centre a workshop where they can express themselves in practical and creative activities. It will be a place where they can learn skills and craftsmanship, learn to use basic tools and professional terms, and get to know about DIY.

“It really makes a positive difference to the youngsters that the Vissing Foundation is supporting us in setting up a workshop. We hope that the workshop will also help to arouse their interest and perhaps give them the confidence to take a professional training in a trade,” says Marianne Bauerfeind, financial controller at Fonden ConCura.

Work in the workshop will include making nesting boxes and repairing bikes, and also assembling furniture, flower boxes and many other things.

“The aim is to give the youngsters an idea of their own abilities, and to get them to practise listening to instructions, converting ideas into tangible projects, and making decisions, to give them confidence and show them what they are able to do, and what opportunities they have in the future. It will strengthen their self esteem when they find they can carry out a task,” says Marianne Bauerfeind.
