MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Summer holidays at Jubellejren

Jubellejren is a volunteer-run non-profit summer holiday camp under the Danish Red Cross Youth. Jubellejren is a camp for children aged 8-13 who otherwise wouldn’t go on vacation and who need a break from home, a new perspective or the opportunity to make new friendships and positive adult contact.”

There are 60 children who come to Jubellejren, all with different challenges in their everyday lives. Some have limited financial resources, some have problems at school, some experience addiction or illness at home, some face other challenges.

“Support from foundations like the Vissing Foundation makes it possible for us to organise a holiday camp where we cheer for and with each other, allowing everyone to get a sense of worth and success,” says Ninna Tove Johansen, Jubellejren.

At the camp, kids enjoy bouncy castles, water fights, football, laser tag, ice cream, trips out of the house and endless games of UNO. Many children try things for the first time at our camp – such as making friends.

Ninna Tove Johansen emphasises that the most important job is to make sure that the children feel seen at the camp. Thanks to 45 volunteers, that goal will be achieved.

“Our volunteers come from all over the country. They are all young adults who are passionate about being something for someone. The volunteer team makes the programme for the whole week and organises trips out of the house, visits and much more for everyone at camp,” says Ninna Tove Johansen.
