MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Sailing trips for young people with ADHD

Many teenagers with ADHD face challenges in a number of ways. Their ADHD noticeably affects their social activities, their future prospects, and chances of a good everyday life.

“In recent years, the ADHD Association has arranged sailing trips for vulnerable teenagers with ADHD. These sailing trips focus especially on helping the young people to gain insights into their own ADHD and what it means for them and for those around them. Besides working with their ADHD, these teenagers face challenges in other areas, which develop them personally and give them skills they can use in the future.

“The sailing trips are very successful. When the young people come ashore after a few days, they are better prepared and more determined than ever before to face life’s challenges. We are delighted that the Vissing Foundation has decided to support us. It really makes a positive difference for the youngsters,” says Inge Refer from the ADHD Association.

She emphasises that the young people’s self esteem is boosted, while they make new friends and learn better social skills. They have seen how others tackle challenges, and perhaps found new strategies for dealing with their own disability.
