“Our aim is to provide secure and positive summer activities in 2026 for about 2,000 children and young people through camps and outings, and it is only possible when funds like the Vissing Foundation support our work,” explains Ruben Holmgreen Falk from the Church Integration Ministries (KIT).
The overall objective is to prevent and reduce loneliness and social exclusion among socially vulnerable children and young people from refugee backgrounds – from babies up to the age of 18 – and their parents. KIT focuses on this target group because research has shown that families with refugee backgrounds feel lonely to a considerably greater extent than traditional Danish families.
KIT Therefore arranges summer camps and outings from about 48 meeting points run by KIT throughout the country. The activities enable the whole family to join in meaningful group activities, take part in Danish life in summer, and enjoy themselves for a time, creating happy memories of the summer holiday.
“We expect that these joint activities will strengthen the children’s feelings of belonging in relation to others in their class at school, and help them feel less lonely and more included. At the same time, we hope that the project will send the children off to a good start in the coming school year, so they are better motivated at school,” says Ruben Holmgreen Falk.
The project is supported by 500 volunteers, who are responsible for planning and organising the summer activities.
