MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Motocross and practical skills

Ryå Continuation School in Northern Jutland is a continuation school for dyslexic young people or students with reading and spelling difficulties.

Among the leisure activities is motocross, but as the boarding school is located on lowland soil in Store Vildmose, the track will be under water and will need to be drained. The plan is for a chicken coop next to the track to be converted into a workshop.

“Thanks to the support from the Vissing Foundation, students are now able to take up a sport that interests them: motocross. They can use their hands and test their abilities in the workshop. Many of our students go on to vocational training at a technical school. We would like to use the workshop and the track to prepare them for an education that is technically focused,” says Niels Bohl, teacher at the continuation school.

Students will be involved in the work process, so they take responsibility for the track and workshop.
