MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Holiday camps with good activities

Blue Cross holiday camps are intended to give vulnerable children unforgettable holidays, and thus a breathing space from a tough daily life.

“We believe that vulnerable children and young people should have the same opportunities as the rest of their school class. At the holiday camps, our focus is on lots of enjoyable activities for the children who come, where they can spend time with adults and other participants who are fun to be with,” says Sandra Trampedach Junget, project manager for Blue Cross Denmark Holiday Camps.

Participants at the camps find that others are in the same situation, such as being in family care or having difficulties at home. They can feel that they are not alone. It makes talking about their situation less impossible, and then it is easier to seek the help they need, e.g. from TUBA, the Blue Cross Children’s house or the Children’s Helpline.

“The holiday camps give the children hope, self-esteem and courage to face the future. The children also get to know where they can go for help when they are back home, facing the challenges of their daily lives,” says Sandra Trampedach Junget.

The holiday camps are planned and organised by volunteers, whom Blue Cross Denmark trains for the task through courses, interviews and regular verbal sparring.
