Holiday camps for children and young people with disabilities

The work of Handicappede Børns Ferier enables children and young people with disabilities to enjoy holidays in good company, and make happy memories just like other children. For many families, schools or clubs, a disability means extra costs for transport, special equipment or accessible facilities. It may mean that children with disabilities are excluded from joint activities.

This project helps in three ways: we give subsidies, so that children with disabilities can join in at camps and on outings with their classmates. We rent out five accessible holiday homes at token rents, so that families can have holidays in safe surroundings. Additionally, we support families financially, so that they can go on outings or short holidays together.

“The grant from the Vissing Foundation helps us to create a sense of community, enjoyment of life, and experiences to treasure for children and families who often face extra challenges in everyday life,” says Mille Møllegaard, fund manager at Handicappede Børns Ferier.

In 2025 we enabled 411 children to go to school camps, and gave 173 families a much-needed break from their daily routines.
