Greener handling of large datasets

Byte2Bit is developing software that compresses large volumes of technical and scientific data, allowing faster access and cheaper storage. Many companies and research institutions today operate with very large datasets, for instance from weather models, sensors, energy, geodata and industrial measurements. This requires costly hardware, large storage capacity and a high energy consumption.

In this project, Byte2Bit will further develop and test its technology for a green data infrastructure. The aim is to reduce the need for storage space and data transfer without losing information in the data. The goal is lower costs, faster access to data, and reduced energy consumption in data centres and technical systems.

“The grant from the Vissing Foundation will help us at Byte2Bit to validate the technology in practical test environments, document the results, and prepare the solution for wider application in enterprises and organisations that operate with large datasets,” says Gajraj Kuldeep, who is the founder and CEO of Byte2Bit.
