MARGINALISED CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Getting away from loneliness and unhappiness

Children and young people in vulnerable families are often lonely when they cannot afford to join in leisure activities. These activities are important for personal development: through them, friendships are formed, and the children get a break from daily lives where mentally, they are working overtime. Leisure activities give them a healthy break from school, and probably also from screen time. Being able to join in something that is fun and that they feel passionate about brings happiness and strengthens self-confidence.

“At BROEN (The Bridge) in Stevns we believe that all children and young people – regardless of their background – deserve to be able to join in leisure activities and meaningful groups. That is why we help financially with both subscriptions and equipment. In this way we help to give these children and young people a chance to look ahead to a brighter future, where they actively take part and are committed to a role in society, and can grow up into caring adults,” says Annette Hvolbøl from BROEN Stevns.

BROEN Stevns works exclusively on a voluntary basis, and is therefore dependent on grants and charity funds. So grants from funds such as the Vissing Foundation are simply essential in enabling us to make a difference,” explains Annette Hvolbøl.
