The Autism Youth summer camp is planned to be autism friendly and is run by young people with autism.
“The summer camp prevents feelings of inadequacy and isolation, which unfortunately are all too common among young people with autism. The camp helps by giving young people with autism a secure place to spend a week of the summer holiday,” explains Viktor Øvlisen, vice chairperson of Autism Youth.
In 2025 all the tickets for the summer camp were sold in just under 17 minutes, and every year Autism Youth sees an increased interest in the summer camp and the way it provides a completely unique experience for young people with autism. In 2026 the summer camp will be held for the fifth successive year.
Autism Youth takes advantage of the young autistic volunteers’ knowledge and experience. Consequently, the participants with autism find precisely the structure they need to enable them to feel comfortable in places they are not used to.
“With the support from the Vissing Foundation we can ensure that costs are covered to enable more young people with autism to come to the summer camp, and that the necessary aids and equipment are in place to meet the special needs of the participants and volunteers, so they have a really good time,” says Viktor Øvlisen.
